1/100 MG Strike Freedom Gundam (ZGMF-X20A)
This is the review for 1/100 MG Strike Freedom Gundam piloted by Kira Yamato in Gundam Seed Destiny.
When the outdated Freedom Gundam were beaten in the intense battle with Force Impulse Gundam - partly due to faults of Kira Yamato who is complacent while his nemesis Shinn Asuka is so determined to kill him. In a way it's an absolute fatal mistake by Kira Yamato but on the other hand we also understand from that point onwards there will be new Gundam to be introduced by Bandai/Sotsu and not long after that surely a new GunPla kit will appear... a typical pattern in any Gundam anime and yet this is the reason why we somehow still love it very much.
In a way I consider this Strike Freedom as a birthday gift from my good friend Wilson Wong, the brother of Billy Wong.... no relation with Pai Kut Wong though.
When he gave me this already assemble Strike Freedom though, it is not ready for review yet as I need to spend some 4 hours to clean up the cutting marks and apply super thick top coat to suit my personal taste but even so, not much I can do to make it better, I managed to get the best I can and that's it... maybe the only other thing that can further improve this Strike Freedom is maybe a nice painting job using spray or air brush - in which I'm not capable of nor I have any of the tools for it - plus I'm a lazy bum anyway...
The box...
The Strike Freedom Gundam standing straight and firm...
No decals what so ever, probably Wilson don't bother about it or he keep it for his other project, nonetheless I don't mind though... he did put some stickers on this kit...
The good thing is that at least he put some effort to do some of the panel lining stuff - not complete 100% but at least better me...
Is this how the pilot goes into the cockpit (in the anime) ? I thought it should be the same as Strike Gundam pilot's cockpit... but maybe I'm wrong...
Honestly it's kind of lame to see Strike Freedom standing on the floor or on the ground.. he should be flying in action....
So let' s have some outdoor photos of it with the help of Bandai Action Base 1....
All the weapons and armaments:
- 2 x MMI-GAU27D 31mm CIWS, fire-linked, mounted in head
- MGX-2235 "Callidus" multi-phase beam cannon, mounted in torso;
- 2 x MA-M02G "Super Lacerta" beam saber, stored on hips, hand-carried in use.
- 2 x MMI-M15E "Xiphias 3" rail cannon, folded underneath hips, spread out in use
- 2 x MX2200 beam shield generator, mounted on forearms
- 2 x MA-M21KF high-energy beam rifle, stored on hips, hand-carried in use, can be combined
Beam Saber...
The 2 beam saber can b combined to become a beam javelin and no physical shield for Strike Freedom as he can use the special beam based shield
And last but not least, the DRAGOON systems from the wing part... with this upgrade now, the Strike Freedom seems to be superior in the battle field even the Legend Gundam can match the power of Strike Freedom though I would say that is also because the pilot is sucks... If only Raww Le Klueze were still alive, we probably can see a more intense and deadly battle between Strike Freedom and Legend.
Overall, if you have extra money, you better grab the 1/100 MG Strike Freedom Gundam Full Burst Mode (at 7,000 yen - or about SGD 107.00 before shipment charges). This is because the gold inner frame part for the cheaper version, the one we reviewed here now (4,800 yen - about SGD 73.00 before shipment charges) is quite disappointing. It looks like some sort of green but also almost yellow... what ever it is... I'm not quite sure but surely the gold one is much better plus it comes with the extra effect parts for the DRAGOON system and a much better action base.
The thing I dislike about Strike Freedom is that the wing part is in fact quite heavy and can affect the stability of the Gundam it self. The Strike Freedom surely looks nice on the action base "flying" spreading his wing and that's about it.
The good thing is that Strike Freedom is compatible with the backpack of Aile Strike, Sword Strike and Launcher Strike Gundam as well as both of Akatsuki backpack the Shiranui pack and Owashi pack.
Nonetheless, despite the weakness it may have, we all still love it somehow because it was piloted by Kira Yamato....

omg I have had my eye on this one for a while, I want the Full Burst one, but I don't think I will get it anytime soon.
ReplyDeleteYeah, you should get the Full Burst Mode, Bandai will give many extra stuff for that particular model... no regret... By the way The Kiwis managed to get a fantastic result against the Italiano, you probably enjoy it a lot in Auckland...
ReplyDeleteApart of a nice dark clear blue action base 1, a poster & crap plated gold runners, I'll say better get the normal version though.
ReplyDeleteI mean, look at Exia Igntion Mode, least it gave tons of swappable parts into Exia Repair.
I've dismantle my SF into pieces to sell as spare parts. (my SF is FBM,& is crap one.)
lol yes everyone is so excited about it, but I'm not really into sport aye :P
ReplyDeleteyeah I like gundams but they pricey and when ever I have almost decided to get one an awesome Figma or two come out and I am like okay Figma over Gundam, lols...
I think Infinite Justice and the Destiny Gundam are the better Master Grades.
ReplyDeleteJust a simple question, (i will probably get this kit next week), does this kit have a peg in it's hands?
