Website of Catholic Vicariate in Brunei Darussalam

Last Sunday, 5th of June 2011, in conjunction with the World Communication Day 2011, the local Catholic church in the capital have launched their new website with the aim of keeping up with the current digital media and internet technology trend and along the way providing the relevant information and contents to the Catholic and Christians within the country as well as those outside.

The Catholic Church around the world celebrates the 45th World Communications Day on the Sunday before Pentecost. This year, it falls on 5th June. Catholics around the world pray for communications professionals on this special day. The Pope’s message on this special day is focussed on the theme: Truth, Proclamation and Authenticity of Life in the Digital Age.

The global Catholic community is invited to respond to the Holy Father’s invitation to proclaim the Gospel message through social media. Facebook users are encouraged to post ‘messages of faith’ on their Facebook walls. The idea is to share photos, videos, words - anything you feel expresses the Gospel message - with your friends. You could post a prayerful reflection, an inspiring song, a sacred place, a pilgrimage journey or simply some words of encouragement.


The event begin shortly after the first Sunday morning mass (prayer session) in the church's conference room.

His Holiness Bishop Cornelius Shim (the current leader of the local Catholic and Christian churches and community) started the humble launching ceremony by cutting those ribbons at the entrance witnessed by some of the parishioners. I only have my HTC Wildfire at that time and thus all these photos were captured using my phone.

Bishop Cornelius is known as someone who love modern gadgets and as seen on the photo below, he is taking some photos or maybe videos using a Sony camcorder. Those typical consumer camcorders have tiny sensor and they can only produces smaller size images (picture/photo) but surely they are quite good at video. I personally quite impressed with the optical zoom capabilities of those devices, some of them have up to 50x or even 70x optical zoom power which is amazing....






"Theme: Truth, Proclamation and Authenticity of Life in the Digital Age" - that's the main message for this year World Communication Day.

- Photo competition is open to all Christians in Brunei Darussalam, except appointed judges.

- Participation in this competition is free of charge.

- Entries must be submitted online from 5 June to 3 July 2011. (Click the WCD2011 menu in the website.)

- Each participant can submit up to a maximum of 3 approved entries.

- Photo entries must be on the theme above.

- Winners will be published on the vicariate website and informed by email on 10 July

- Prizes will be awarded on 15 July 2011

- The decision of the judges is final.

Note: I personally feel that the name is quite long for a website address.... but then again, what ever... if they like it that way, so be it - it's not a sin anyway... LOL

Interestingly though Bishop Cornelius Shim said he ever visited Shewsbury Land once while he was looking for some information about Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio and he did asked me if I want and can contribute further to the development of the church's website so all I can say is a "yes" and I gave my name card to the person in charge who said he will contacted me soon and that's about it.

Given the crazy and hentai nature of Shewsbury Land and my self LOL.... I'm not sure in what form I can contribute, but if there is an opportunity to be helpful, I don't mind to do it, I consider this as "contribution to the community" or something like that....
