Play Imaginative - Mini Figure World - Snow White and Forest Friend
Snow White is my old time favorite princess from Disney's Legion of Princesses or something like that and evidently Snow White is the first of them all and it is the first full-length cel animated feature film and the earliest Disney animated feature film.
If Walt Disney's “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” had been primarily about Snow White, it might have been forgotten soon after its 1937 premiere, and treasured today only for historical reasons, as the first full-length animated feature in color. Snow White is, truth to tell, a bit of a bore, not a character who acts but one whose mere existence inspires others to act.
Mr. Disney had to mortgage his house to help finance the film's production, which eventually ran up a total cost of $1,488,422.74, a massive sum for a feature film in 1937, Snow White was a risk that could have finished Disney.
Snow White required the work of hundreds of artists and plenty of animators, plus many a large number of background artists with about one hundred of assistants and the creation of thousands of drawings. Nothing like the techniques in “Snow White” had been seen before. Animation itself was considered a child's entertainment, six minutes of gags involving mice and ducks, before the newsreel and the main feature. “Snow White” demonstrated how animation could release a movie from its trap of space and time; how gravity, dimension, physical limitations and the rules of movement itself could be transcended by the imaginations of the animators.
Fast forward, the film was a tremendous critical success, with many reviewers hailing it as a genuine work of art, recommended for both children and adults. In 1989, the United States Library of Congress deemed the film "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" and selected it for preservation in the National Film Registry and is ranked in the American Film Institute's list of the 100 greatest American films, who also named the film as the greatest American animated film of all time in 2008. Disney's take on the fairy tale has had a significant cultural impact, resulting in popular theme park attractions, a video game, and a Broadway musical.
Nonetheless, I love to collect Snow White figures, I hope that someday she will be made into Figma or Revoltech or SH Figuarts by those Japanese producers though this seems to be a wishful thinking on my side...
Being a collector who used to get the great details and likeness from figures like Figma and Revoltech, I'm quite fussy when it comes to the face and thus even though I often saw those gorgeous "Barbie-type" of Snow White dolls from the local stores, I didn't grab them coz I feel that their face are not as accurate as I wanted it to be though to be fair it's pretty hard to find the most accurate one so far.
On the other hand I knew that there is this "Disney Limited Edition Deluxe 17" Snow White Doll" available from Amazon and eBay which IMO is absolutely beautiful but the price is not something a poor farmer like me can afford LOL... up to over USD 1,000.00 (could reach higher) and maybe if you a bit lucky, you could get it in the region of several hundreds of USD - quite expensive but maybe someday if I become a millionaire, I will buy a dozen of them for fun sake LOL...
And then there is another one, this one which is quite decent and it comes with several different outfits which means you can undress the Snow White and have fun with all those extra dress - but I cannot find this one locally and so far the only option is through eBay or Amazon and it could be pricey as well.... sigh...
For now, this is all I that I can grabbed, the price is just about USD 10.00 which is quite decent and surprisingly for me, it was produce by Play Imaginative Pte. Ltd. - a Singapore based toy company.
So let's move on with the review... first the box:
When we look closely at other characters available from this "Mini Figure World" series - the other option of ladies character is Cinderella - she is nice and all but for me, she is not really a princess... she was a maid who just lucky enough to meet a prince and they get married and live happily ever after or so they said...
And now, out of the box, you will get the figure (Snow White) and a rabbit and those lovely background and that's about it:
Let's have a look at the Snow White:
The figure design, detailing and painting finishing are quite good for this price and so far so good, I like what I see.
As it says on the box, this is not a toy but adult collectible - which means when it comes to play value, not much you will get out of it but then again, being an adult, we can always use our imagination and make the best use of what we can...
So I guess, one of the way to have fun with this Snow White is to use those background and snap some photos (though some of you may have other idea which involved touching yourself while holding Snow White with your other hand.... LOL)
And then this "Forest Friend" which is a rabbit and nothing special about it except for the fact that this rabbit is potentially suffering from STD... LOL:
There you go, a horny rabbit and Snow White...
Talking about having fun, we can also use the background and snap some photos of the other popular characters owned by Disney nowadays, first this black guy:
Apparently this is the other Snow White that I have:
Leia Organa, she's a princess and a general:
And the goldie droid...
My 2 little Snow White, side by side - and that rabbit of course:
Overall, this is a very decent collectible Snow White figure that comes in affordable price and I like it a lot. The figure is decently detailed and painted but no articulation what so ever and all you can do is that simple gorgeous standing pose which means it is best to just leave this figure inside the box as it is. I hope someday I can get more of Snow White.... please pray for me.... LOL LOL LOL....
end
I don’t know if it’s the way Disney developed the character of Snow White, but I’m not so attached to her, despite being very popular among children and adults... I have heard that the original versions of tales like Snow White and others related, were darker, more twisted and even more gory that what was made for the Disney’s renditions... However, when it comes to collectibles I usually change my mind, certainly this nice figurine captures the gullibility of Snow White, with a slight touch of roguery and actually is good value for your money !!!...
