OOO Combo Change 05 Kamen Rider OOO Tajadol Combo
Continuing our journey with the OOO Combo Change figure series, this time we will review the magnificent "OOO Combo Change 05 - Kamen Rider OOO TaJaDol Combo".
For those of you who didn't know, apart from the premium figures like SIC series and S.H. Figuarts series, as well as those low price fixed pose figures like those RHS series, Bandai also produced this fun posable action figures with gimmick with the price of not so far away from those S.H. Figuarts series.
For example, the normal retail price for the upcoming S.H.Figuarts Kamen Rider OOO TaJaDol Combo (which will be out for the first time by end of May 2011) is 3,200 yen (about SGD 48.00 / USD 39.00) before adding shipment charges.
The normal retail price for the OCC figures series - specifically for this TajaDol as example, is 2,800 yen (about SGD 42.00 / USD 34.00) before adding shipment charges.
Some of you might think that it's rather expensive and maybe you would rather go for the "S.H.Figuarts series" instead of this item....
Well, can't blame you on that, but you must also understand the fact that the "OCC series" offer decent details, same level or in some cases - slightly better articulation than "S.H.Figuarts series" and the most important thing is that they offer something that "S.H.Figuarts series" don't have - the ability to be detached and combined with other figures within the same series and thus you will have more variation than ever. The only obvious advantage of "S.H.Figuarts series" is the great detailing of the figure.
Let's start the review now...
The box;
Out of the box;
You will get all these;
As usual, let's have a look at the figure;
A close up look on the head/face, body and legs;
First we will have a look at the "wing gimmick" - I personally believe that similar gimmick will at least be available on the "S.H.Figuarts".
The "wing gimmick" is quite awesome.... remind me of those Gundam like Wing Zero, Strike Freedom and/or Destiny.
Next we will look at the exciting articulation section....
Unlike those "gimmick figures" from the previous "WFC series" (Kamen Rider W ) which have lousy articulation, the "OCC series" fixed those issues and in fact, its proven to be not just a simple fix but rather a totally excellent improvement from the previous generation.
This usual kneeling post is not a problem;
Furthermore.... you can also do some exciting stuff stuff like below - something that "S.H.Figuarts" figure can't do at all;
Next, let's have a look at the Taja Spinner;
The detailing is quite decent. You shall attached this "Taja Spinner" on the left arm as shown below;
Make it look like a small shield.... quite gorgeous....
Another standard features for the "gimmick figures" from Bandai, the articulated fingers;
And that is why, unlike the "S.H Figuarts", there is no extra/spare hands given with this figure.
Next we will look at the "legs gimmick"
The legs can open up into the clawed bird-like version for Ozu "coup de grace" attacks, as seen in the show;
And that's it.... basically that is all the features and gimmick of this particular figure.
Next, we will look at the "compulsory" feature/gimmick for the "OCC series" - the combo combination.
With a press of a button here;
You can split up the head, body and leg parts.....
And if you happen to have the other figures from the "OCC series", you are in for a treat - you can then do what ever combo combination that you can think off - apparently apart from this new OCC5 TaJaDol, we also have the OCC1 TaToBa, OCC2 GataKiriBa and OCC3 LaToraTa.
As at the day of this review, we still missing the OCC4 SaGohZo.
For fun sake... we did some example for your reference;
Maybe there is other combo that you can think off, which is why it's good if you happen to have all of them.
And now, it's action pose time;
"Coup de grace" attack;
If you have the sword from OCC1 TaToBa, this TaJaDol can borrow it for a while...
Looks more complete with the sword isn't it?
And again, if you also have those "Candroids" - to be specific, the "Eagle Candroids", you can then have more fun with this TaJaDol;
Garuda Airlines.... you can now fly anywhere with reasonable price..... LOL
Overall, apart from TaToBa, this TaJaDol seems to be our favorite combo of Ozu. This figure have great articulation, fun gimmick and promise lots of fun. We have no complain what so ever as we fully understand about the greatness and the weakness of this figure and all of them are within our expectation. The only thing that we didn't expect earlier is "the wonderfulness" of the wing gimmick.
A great value for money certainly, though it's up to you if you think you should just skipped the "OCC series" and focus on the "S.H. Figuarts series" instead. Your money, your decision....
If you ask me for recommendation, I will rather say what Bandai want me to say in such situation = "S.H. Figuarts and OCC - Collect them all, don't think, just buy all of them, the more you buy, the happier we will be at Bandai" ^_^ LOL

ReplyDeleteDo want *_*,for action figures i still prefer Kid's toys like this instead of S.H.Figuarts,it have "weird" feature like the one in the show (the legs and wings) =) , the taja spinner a bit too big thought :(
ReplyDeleteLOL Garuda airlines
Sad thing for those who collect the SH Figuarts - the wing effects are sold separately and exclusive. And these days I've heard of bad QC with the latest Figuarts releases. The OCC line looks pretty decent and can hold its own against them now.
ReplyDeleteActually, what I like about the OOOCC is the fact that everything functions the way they were on the show without the need of parts-swapping like the SHF figures were.
