Tomica - Honda Civic Type R (FD2)
This is "Honda Civic Type R" at 1/64 scale produced by Takara Tomy.
"Honda Civic Type R" is the highest performance version of the Honda Civic made by Honda Motor Company of Japan. It features a lightened and stiffened body, specially tuned engine and upgraded brakes and chassis. Red is also used in the interior to give it a special sporting distinction and to separate it from other Honda models. In Japan, a one-make series of Honda Type R cars where privateers can purchase an off-road Type R and compete in a series championship is a stepping stone for many aspiring racing drivers.
This particular model is from the 3rd generation of "Civic Type R" series from Honda and this is the 4 door sedan body style known as the "FD2". It has the "FF Layout" with "6 speed manual transmission" on a 2.0 L K20A14 (FD2) Engine.
You can also get the "Civic Mugen RC" version (which exist since 2008) - a race version with 3 different variation to choose from;
1) BASIC: 6,247,500 yen (about SGD 100,880 / USD 79,600)
2) STANDARD: 7,192,500 yen (about SGD 116,110 / USD 91,600)
It adds racing wheel package (Mugen RC 18-inch wheel with Yokohama tire), brake package (front+rear brake pads), seat and steering (Recaro bucket seat, seat rail, steering wheel with box, TAKATA harness), carbon inner part option A (carbon fibre right floor cover panel, footrest, door lining) over BASIC.
3) COMPLETE: 7,822,500 yen (about SGD 126,250 / USD 99,620)
It adds carbon inner part option B (carbon-fibre console box, left floor cover panel, centre pillar cover), engine package (engine rebalancing and calibration)
Surely not many of us can afford that... Thankfully though, we can just buy this miniature model at SGD 5.95 / USD 4.70 from one of the local toy shop :-)
Let see this 1/64 scale version ^__^
First the box/packaging;
And now, out of the box/packaging;
Features of this car..... for me personally, this is the first time ever I found a Takara Tomy car with openable engine hood featuring some decent "engine" gimmick;
That's the "engine" - maybe to some of you it's not that great at all but then again, at this scale and price points, I love to have it and I don't mind to get it all the time ^__^
Other than that.... not much, you can see the prominent Honda logo and you can see the "Civic" and "Type R" insignia on the body of the car and that's about it....
Honda Civic has reached to it's 9th generation in 2010/2010 and for Honda it is certainly an important brand/segment that experienced many historical development in Japanese automotive industry since all the way back in the early 1970's.
Honda Civic Type R genre though is just at it's 3rd generation now but despite receiving lots of modernization treatment and more features being thrown on it, Honda somehow managed to maintained the traditional elements of "Type R" and still make the car looks as modern as it should and most of all, this car still promise a greater performance promised under the "Type R" series.

Overall, I think this is a brilliant miniature replica of Honda Civic Type R. The painting finishing is good as what we would expect from the price we pay for Takara Tomy products. The openable engine hood and engine gimmick is a welcome bonus. A good car for miniature die cast collectors and fans/owners of Honda Civic and those who can't afford the real Honda Civic TYpe R LOL.....

I always like the display rack of Takara Tomy diecast car. They let you see the all the cars in the series. The box package makes the toy easy for storage as well.
