Tomica - Suzuki Swift

The Suzuki Swift is a subcompact car produced by Suzuki in Japan since 2000 and so far it proved to be quite a popular car amongst the hatchback enthusiast and locally I see a lot of this car on the road on daily basis.

In fact, due to the popularity Suzuki have also launched the "Sport version" of the new Swift in Japan named SwiftRS, and in September 2006 the model was introduced in most European markets. Named "Swift Sport", it is powered by an enhanced M16A unit, a high-revving 1.6-litre, naturally aspirated DOHC VVT four-cylinder engine with a 11.1:1 compression ratio, high lift cams, forged pistons, and strengthened valve springs. The 1.6-liter engine produces 125 metric horsepower (92 kW; 123 hp) 148 newton metres (109 lb·ft) torque. The Swift Sport features sportier bumpers and spoilers, a stiffer suspension, twin exhaust pipes, red sport seats (with Recaro seats optional) and four-wheel disc brakes on 16-inch wheels. The European Swift Sport features five-speed manual transmission, the three-door body variant, 17-inch wheels (16-inch also available) and electronic stability control (ESC).

If I were to buy a hatchback or mini car, Suzuki Swift must be in my top 5 shopping list. Anyway, I can't afford to buy any real car at the moment but at least I could managed with this 1/64 scale die cast model produced by Tomica of Takara Tomy.

The casting and painting finishing is very good, exactly what we could expect from Tomica though the exterior detailing can be improved.

Apart from the usual "suspension" gimmick, the other feature is this openable rear door - and there is no openable front door, which is quite standard from Tomica for this kind of mini car.

Overall, this is somehow a still good representation of Suzuki Swift in 1/64 scale by Tomica. I love the quality of the painting finishing and no matter how simple this car looks as a scale model, it is somehow still quite a cute likeable car.

  1. this Susuki Swift is marketed here as well and by an internal strategy, is not branded as Chevrolet Swift like before (in the 90’s)... the city version is very compact but with its distinctive desing is very appealing, specially for women (i have seen many of them driving it)... the sport hatchback/coupe is not available tough (due to its origin, it would be very expensive for its size)...

being a Tomica diecast has better detail than other models, but the rear door window would be more realistic with a plastic insert or even a simple hole than just painted... altogether is a nice model by this diecast brand... =)

    1. Hi Roger Ung, I believe you can get it from any Toys R' Us or maybe from any collectors/hobby shop around you. Last option is obviously buy online from E-Bay or any other online shop. Where are you by the way?
